(Кондак)  Воскрес Ти днесь із гробу, Щедрий, і нас вивів Ти із врат смертних, сьогодні Адам торжествує, і радується Єва, а разом пророки з патріярхами безперестанно оспівують Божественну могутність Твоєї влади.

(Богородичний)  Тебе оспівуємо, Богородице Діво, заступницю спасіння роду нашого, бо від Тебе Син Твій і Бог наш тіло прийняв і, на хресті перетерпівши страждання, визволив нас від тління як чоловіколюбець.

Апостол

(Рим. 6:18-23)  Браття...  звільнившися від гріха, стали рабами праведности.  Говорю я по-людському, через неміч вашого тіла.  Бо як ви віддавали були члени ваші за рабів нечистості й беззаконню на беззаконня, так тепер віддайте члени ваші за рабів праведности на освячення.  Бо коли були ви рабами гріха, то були вільні від праведности.  Який же плід ви мали тоді?  Такі речі, що ними соромитесь тепер, бо кінець їх то смерть.  А тепер, звільнившися від гріха й ставши рабами Богові, маєте плід ваш на освячення, а кінець життя вічне.  Бо заплата за гріх смерть, а дар Божий вічне життя в Христі Ісусі, Господі нашім.

(І Кор. 4:9-16)  Браття...  Бо думаю я , що Бог нас, апостолів, поставив за найостанніших, мов на смерть засуджених, бо ми стали дивовищем світові, і Анголам, і людям.  Ми нерозумні Христа ради, а ви мудрі в Христі; ми слабі, ви ж міцні; ви славні, а ми безчесні!  Ми до цього часу і голодуємо, і прагнемо, і нагі ми, і катовані, і тиняємось, і трудимось, працюючи своїми руками.  Коли нас лихословлять, ми благословляємо; як нас переслідують, ми терпимо; як лають, ми молимось; ми стали, як сміття те для світу, аж досі ми всім, як ті викидки!  Не пишу це для того, щоб вас осоромити, але остерігаю, як своїх любих дітей.  Бо хоч би ви мали десять тисяч наставників у Христі, та отців не багато; а я вас породив у Христі Ісусі через Євангелію.  Тож благаю я вас: будьте наслідувачами мене!

Євангелія

(Мт. 8:5-13)  А коли Він до Капернауму ввійшов, то до Нього наблизився сотник, та й благати зачав Його, кажучи: Господи, мій слуга лежить удома розслаблений, і тяжко страждає.  Він говорить йому: Я прийду й уздоровлю його. А сотник Йому відповів: Недостойний я, Господи, щоб зайшов Ти під стріху мою.  Та промов тільки слово, і видужає мій слуга!  Бо й я людина підвладна, і вояків під собою я маю; і одному кажу: піди то йде він, а тому: прийди і приходить, або рабові своєму: зроби те і він зробить.  Почувши таке, Ісус здивувався, і промовив до тих, хто йшов услід за Ним: Поправді кажу вам: навіть серед Ізраїля Я не знайшов був такої великої віри!  Кажу ж вам, що багато-хто прийдуть від сходу та заходу, і засядуть у Царстві Небеснім із Авраамом, Ісаком та Яковом.  Сини ж Царства повкидані будуть до темряви зовнішньої буде там плач і скрегіт зубів!  І сказав Ісус сотникові: Іди, і як повірив ти, нехай так тобі й станеться!  І тієї ж години одужав слуга його.

(Мк. 3:13-19)  І Він вийшов на гору, і покликав, кого Сам хотів; вони ж приступили до Нього.  І визначив Дванадцятьох, щоб із Ним перебували, і щоб послати на проповідь їх, і щоб мали вони владу вздоровляти недуги й вигонити демонів.  І визначив Він оцих Дванадцятьох: Симона, і дав йому ймення Петро, і Якова Зеведеєвого, і Івана, брата Якова, і дав їм імена Воанергес, цебто сини громові, і Андрія, і Пилипа, і Варфоломія, і Матвія, і Хому, і Якова Алфієвого, і Тадея, і Симона Кананіта та Юду Іскаріотського, що й видав Його.

(Tropar of the Resurrection – Tone 3)  Let the heavens rejoice.  Let the earth be glad.  For the Lord has shown strength with His arm.  He has trampled down death by death.  He has become the First-Born of the Dead.  He has delivered us from the depths of hades and has granted to the world great mercy. 

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. 

(Kondak)  Today You arose from the tomb, О Merciful One, leading us from the gates of death. On this day Adam exults as Eve rejoices. Together with the prophets and patriarchs they unceasingly praise the divine might of Your Power. 

Both now, and ever, and to the ages of ages.  Amen. 

(Theotokion)  We sing Your praises, О Virgin Theotokos, who intercedes for the salvation of our race. For Your Son, our God, by taking flesh from You and accepting suffering on the Cross, has delivered us from corruption for He is the Lover of mankind. 

(Prokeimen - Tone 3) Sing praises to our God, sing praises. Sing praises to our King, sing praises.

Verse:  Clap your hands, all you peoples. Shout to God with a joyful voice.

Epistle

(Rom. 6:18-23)  Brethren…  Being made free from sin, you became the slaves of righteousness.  I speak in the manner of men because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you have yielded your members as slaves to uncleanness, and to lawless act unto lawless act, even so now yield your members as slaves to righteousness unto holiness.  For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness.  What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed?  For the end of those things is death.  But now, being made free from sin, and having become slaves to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(I Cor. 4:9-16)  Brethren…  For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men.  We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ.  We are weak, but you are strong.  You are held in honour, but we in disrepute.  To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless, and we labour, working with our own hands.  When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world, the off-scouring of all things.  I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children.  For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers.  For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.  I urge you, then, be imitators of me!

Gospel

(Mt. 8:5-13)  And when Jesus had entered into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, beseeching Him, and saying: Lord, my son lies at home paralysed and grievously tormented.  And Jesus says to him: I will come and heal him.  The centurion answered and said: Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my boy will be healed.  For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me.  And I say to this one: Go!  And he goes; and to another: Come!  And he comes; and to my servant: Do this!  And he does it.  When Jesus heard, He marvelled and said to those who followed: Truly I say to you: I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel.  And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven.  But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  And Jesus said to the centurion: Go.  And as you have believed, so let it be to you.  And his boy was healed in that hour.

(Mk. 3:13-19)  And He went up on the mountain, and called to Him those whom He desired; and they came to Him.  And He appointed twelve, to be with Him, and to be sent out to preach and have authority to cast out demons: Simon whom He surnamed Peter; James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, whom He surnamed Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him.

FUNDRAISER FOR JONATHON

On behalf of Jonathon Silvernagle, his family, and the organizing committee, we would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your generous donation towards his fundraiser.  A successful fundraiser was held at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cultural Centre, 404 Meredith Road NE, Calgary, on Saturday, March 1st in honour of Jonathon.

Special thanks to Father Taras Krochak and family, UWAC, TYC, Parish Council, CYMK, and the parishioners for your encouragement, prayers and Christian love. Special thanks to those from St. Vladimir’s who worked so hard to ensure the fundraiser was successful.

We were overwhelmed by all of the support received and are pleased to inform you that we raised over $50,000.00.

The money raised is being used to purchase items and provide the necessary support  for Jonathon to function independently and to improve his quality of life.  All proceeds were invested in the trust fund established with BMO Nesbitt Burns.  Appointed guardians of the trust fund will ensure accountability and responsible management of all donations.

At the present time, Jonathon is receiving intensive medical / rehabilitation treatment at the Brain Injury Clinic in Ponoka, Alberta.  This outstanding program provides individuals, with brain injury, the opportunity to develop independence to their potential and we are hopeful that Jonathon will make major strides during his stay.

We continue to ask for your prayers for Jonathon’s recovery and again sincerely thank you for the contribution you have made to this young man.

старозавітне вчення про відношення до різного роду марновірств

(Продовҗення)  Тепер давайте подивимося на відношення Старозавітної і Новозавітної Церкви до астрології. У великих кодексах Мойсея ми читаємо про заборону займатися усякими видами чарівництва під страхом смерті. „.... Не звертайтеся до духів померлих, та до ворожбитів, і не доводьте себе до опоганення ними. Я Господь, Бог ваш. А душа, що звертається до померлих духів та до чарівників, щоб блудити за ними, то Я зверну Своє лице проти тієї душі і винищу того з-посеред народу його“ (Левіт. 19,31;20,6).

У Второзаконні ми також читаємо про строге попередження Господа не займатися ніякими видами чарівництва і не спілкуватися з тими, хто цим займається, тому що саме за це захоплення чарівництвом (яке є по суті союзом з демонами) Бог і виганяє народи з їхньої землі, прирікає їх на загибель, землю же ту віддає Ізраїлеві, що був вірний Йому. „Коли ти будеш входити до Краю, що дає тобі Господь, Бог твій, то не навчися чинити такого, як гидота народів цих. Нехай не знайдеться між тобою такий, хто переводить свого сина чи дочку через огонь, хто ворожить ворожбу, хто ворожить по хмарах, і хто ворожить по птахах, і хто чарівник, і хто чорнокнижник, і хто викликає духа померлого та духа віщого , і хто питає померлих. Бо гидота для Господа кожен, хто чинить таке , і через ті гидоти Господь, Бог твій, виганяє їх перед тобою. Бездоганний ти будеш перед Господом, Богом своїм. Бо ці народи ці, що ти посядеш їх, слухають тих, хто ворожить по хмарах та ворожбитів, а тобі не те дав Господи Бог твій. Пророка з-посеред тебе, з братів твоїх, як я, поставить тобі Господь Бог твій, Його будете слухати...“ (Втор. 18,9-15).

Пророк Ісайя, пророкуючи загибель Вавилона за його нечестя і пагубне заняття магією й астрологією, від імені Господа з іронією говорить: „ Ставай же зі своїми закляттями та з безліччю чарів своїх, якими ти мучилася від юності своєї, може зможеш ти допомогти, може ти настрахаєш! Змучилась ти від великої кількості рад своїх, хай же стануть і хай допоможуть тобі ті, хто небо розрізує , хто до зір придивляється, хто провіщує кожного місяця, що має прийти на тебе! Ось стали вони мов солома: огонь їх попалить, не врятують душі своєї з руки полум’я, це не жар, щоб погріти себе, ані полум’я, щоб сидіти біля нього...(Іс. 47, 12-14).

Тут ми маємо пряму вказівку на безсилля усіх видів чарівництва перед волею і силою Божою і на неминучу кару, що осягає тих, хто займається магією й астрологією чи вдається до допомоги окультистів. При зіткненні магів і волхвів із пророками й іншими духоносними людьми сини пітьми незмінно зазнають поразки. Так, у книзі Вихід (7-9) ми читаємо про те, як волхви і чарівники протистоячи Мойсею, робили чудеса перед фараоном за допомогою чаклунських чарів, але не змогли протистояти силі Божій і зрештою змушені були визнати свою поразку від пророка Мойсея. У книзі Буття (41) розповідається про торжество праведного Йосипа над волхвами і мудрецями єгипетськими, які не змогли при усьому своєму магічному мистецтві вірно витлумачити сон фараону. Пророк Даниїл також багаторазово осоромлює халдейських мудреців і магів (Дан. 2-4, 5).

Усе це пояснюється тим, що свої чудеса і пророцтва сини світла роблять завжди силою Божою, Духом Святим; волхви, що противляться їм, маги, астрологи, використовуючи мистецтво чарівництва, діють силою демонічною і природно зазнають поразки, протидіючи Богу.

У Новому Завіті ми бачимо таке ж непримиренне відношення до усіх видів чарівництва, як і в Старому і таку ж постійну перемогу сил Божих при зіткненні з чарівництвом. Так, апостол Павло виганяє духа пророцтва зі служниці, що пророкувала майбутнє (Дій. 16, 18), хоча здавалося б вона провіщала правду, слідуючи за апостолами і говорячи, що вони „раби Бога Всевишнього, що провіщають нам шлях спасіння“. Але апостол не бажав і істини з нечистих вуст бісівських, даючи тим самим приклад відношення до демонів, навіть якщо вони іноді і віщають правду. Тому що за цим стоїть тільки одне бажання: втягнути в спілкування з метою завоювати довіру, щоб потім погубити.

Той же апостол Павло карає сліпотою Елима - волхва, що противиться євангельській проповіді і намагається відвернути людей від істинної віри (Дій. 13, 8-II). І нарешті, із книги Діянь Апостольських ми довідаємося про те, що під дією апостольської проповіді „...із тих, що займались чарівництвом досить багато хто, зібравши книги свої, спалили перед усіма“ (Дій. 19, 19). У такий спосіб вони відреклися від зв`язку з демонами і засвідчили несумісність віри в Христа і чорнокнижництво.  (Далі буде)

THE ASSEMBLY OF THE HOLY GLORIOUS AND PRAISE WORTHY APOSTLES

Even though each one of the Twelve Great Apostles has their own special day of celebration throughout the year, nevertheless the Church has set aside this day as a festal assembly of all the apostles. 

Let us also mention how each one of these most holy and most beneficial men in the history of the world ended their earthly life: Saint Peter - St. Peter was crucified upside down; Saint Andrew - St. Andrew was crucified upside down; Saint James, the son of Zebedee - St. James was beheaded; Saint John the Theologian - St. John died in a miraculous manner; Saint Philip - St. Philip was crucified; Saint Bartholomew - St. Bartholomew was crucified, scrapped and beheaded; Saint Thomas - St. Thomas was pierced with five spears; Saint Matthew the Evangelist - St. Matthew was burned alive; Saint James, the son of Alphaeus - St. James was crucified; Saint Thaddeus or Jude, the Brother of James - St. Thaddeus was crucified; Saint Simon the Zealot - St. Simon was crucified; Saint Matthias - St. Matthias was stoned and then was beheaded after death; and Saint Paul - St. Paul was beheaded.  (From the Prologue of Ohrid)

REFLECTION

Concern for the good of all people!

That concern filled the exalted spirits and noble hearts of the Holy Apostles.  Writing about the Apostle Paul, St. John Chrysostom calls him: "The universal father of the world."  "As though he", says Chrysostom, "gave birth to the entire world that he anxiously laboured and tried to being all into the Kingdom."  Indeed, most exalted is this title: "Universal father of the world" and if this title could be attributed to anyone, other than God, it could only be attributed to the Apostles of Christ.  By their parental concern for the entire world, they in truth, were "the universal fathers of the world." 

There are many mothers in the world who care less about their own children then the Apostles were concerned about the good of their persecutors and adversaries.  The Apostle Peter twice saved his most bitter adversary, Simon the Magician, from death: once when the people wanted to burn him and another time when a dog wanted to tear him to pieces.  Just think, how the world repaid these, their benefactors!  As if they were the greatest robbers and criminals.  O how true are the words of St. Cyril who says: "As long as we are in the body, the same occurs to us Christians as to pagans, the difference is only in the spirit."  (From the Prologue of Ohrid)
